Hands-on

Augmented reality has been used to enable trainees to have an interactive training course which they can take on by themselves. The software present in the glasses can guide the trainee step-by-step in their construction and maintenance of mechanical devices. The glasses do this by projecting the following action through a 3D animation process accompanied by text prompts which shows what actions the trainee should take in real time. This is suited to the trainings in high cost industries such as surgery and fire fighting where the workers face high levels of stress.

Education

Augmented reality has been adopted for education purposes in some primary schools such as Shaw Wood Primary School. The students, equipped with iPads or tablets, point their tablet computers at images and books to learn more about the subject matter related to them. By appearing more interactive, engaging and exciting, the students’ interest in learning is piqued. With this technology, the students are able to actively learn for themselves instead of the old style where the students were simply passive recipients of the knowledge.

This technology doesn’t only stop at the classroom, other places of learning such as libraries, museums and science centers could apply this technology to provide another level of learning to the visits.
