Augmented Reality in navigation
Augmented Reality is used to assist in road navigation through enhanced GPS software, which is projected onto the dashboard or windscreen of the vehicle.
Augmented reality is also seeing use as an upgrade to existing GPS services. No longer are we limited to finding directions on a small screen on the dashboard! With AR’s use of Heads-up displays and laser technology, the details of the GPS service can now be projected onto the windscreen. A dashboard GPS uses a camera to scan road details and can help the driver to identify simple details such as traffic light colours and road signs. The camera is also used to capture images of road conditions, which can be shared by other users of the system to create a network that provides live updates of the traffic.
